Lawrence Farmers Market and Life Affirming Donuts

Saturday morning found us at the downtown Lawrence farmers market…. fresh Kansas corn, ripe summer tomatoes and stalls selling the usual homemade soap, local honey and fresh cut flowers. The chatter between shoppers and produce vendors mixes with the sound of the guitar guy and his blend of folk-pop favorites.

We made the rounds and discovered a very long line which led to the 'Slow Rise' donut stall featuring slow rise sour dough donuts with a variety of tasty seasonal fillings. I had to try the pandan, a sweet coconut cream filling with asian flavors, no surprise since the mom of this family enterprise is from indonesia. Tammy tried one with the fresh in season peach filling.

They were fresh, light and covered with sugar crystals, stuffed with incredibly rich homemade filling. In short these were the best donuts I have ever had in my life, period!

In addition, I was able to find a tall cool glass of 'Honey Basil Rose' lemonade. The perfect compliment.
As we begin our travels, I look forward to sharing more amazing food stories.
