Sioux Falls SD

Today we are traveling to Sioux falls South Dakota.

As we drive north through Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa along I-29, we are Leaving behind the fields of tall corn and the landscape shifts to rolling fields of prairie grass. Our views in South Dakota are quite pleasing as the prairie grass appears to shimmer or dance in the wind.

Upon arriving in Sioux Falls our first stop is the Falls. Located in Falls park, part of a greenway/bikeway which runs along both banks of the Big Sioux river. While not as spectacular as Niagara or Victoria Falls, the Sioux Falls provide an opportunity to walk out on the rocks and get up close and feel the spray.

Falls park is located downtown and an easy walk to Phillips Avenue, the heart of downtown and the main route for the Sioux Falls Sculpture walk. The most significant work is the ‘Arc of Dreams’, a monumental sculpture which spans the Big Sioux river. At the top of the arc is a 15 foot gap which represents the leap of faith dreamers take to realize their dreams.

There is an old movie palace on Phillips Avenue and the Orpheum, a theater/concert venue. Levitt At the Falls is an outdoor pavilion which hosts an outdoor summer concert series. In Sioux Falls we found that there was more here than initially meets the eye.
