Today we took the train from Augsburg to Munich to meet my cousin Ingrid and her husband Robert, who have kindly offered to show us their beautiful city. The first stop was to the Marienpltaz, and the incredibly ornate Rathaus (town hall) with the world famous glockenspiel. Next we were off to the Viktualienmarkt, an incredibly large outdoor food market with over 140 shops and stalls. Yes it is a farmers market with fresh fruits, veg, meats, cheese, bread, wine, but also many eateries and of course a Beer garden!

We also toured the ‘English Garden’, one of the world's largest urban parks, larger in fact than New York's Central park. One peculiar feature along the Isar river which runs through the park, is the Eisbachwelle, an area where fast flowing water enters the river and creates a perpetual wave, attracting surfers year round.

After a fantastic fresh pasta lunch in a quiet local neighborhood, we ended our day in the only appropriate way…....this is Bavaria........
