Last day in Regensburg


On our last day in Regensburg we toured the Alte Rathaus (Old Town Hall). The guide was extremely knowledgeable. He discussed the political importance of Regensburg as an independent imperial city, and then we toured the medieval building from the council chambers to the jail, interrogation room (torture chamber). Of particular interest was a still functioning 400 year old clock set with only an hour hand to determine time. Also on view was the official scale which set the standard weights for the city merchants. It too was functioning, and with great accuracy.

We exited the Rathaus to discover a group of very talented classically trained musicians performing in the square. They were a delightful surprise.
