I was born in Regensburg in 1956 and left the City for the US when I was one. So I was excited to explore some of the city's lesser known landmarks such as this house located at 21 Ober Bachgasse. This was the home of my grandparents, Franz and Anna who lived on the top floor. Diagonally across the street on Alte Manggasse is where my cousin Ingrid lived with her parents Margot and Albert.
A short walk down Ober Bachgasse, entering Emmeramsplatz, I locate this unassuming building which in 1956 was a Klinik. Within this very building is where I entered the world.
Located in the square, adjacent to the splendid Thurn & Taxis Castle, is the Kloster St Emmeram, a former monastery with an ornate basilica. This basilica is where I was baptized, and while it has been 66 years since I was last here, I would say it hasn’t changed one bit.

Kagerer Oma & Opa lived on the top floor. The open window (in the right of this photo) was the kitchen & dining room with a bathtub (only the tub) on the far opposite wall. The window to the left was the living room while the 3rd window was the bedroom. Per the Größer Búbe. :-) AND he says he remembers plucking the gravel from the plaster at the windows and tossing it at the street light that was once mounted on the corner building of Ober Bachgasse and Alte Manggasse. They lived there in 1951 but he doesn't know how long they lived there before then. Margot will know!
