Nuremberg Rally Grounds

The former Zeppelin landing field in Nuremberg was converted into a monumental backdrop used to extol the glory of the German people and National Socialism in the the rallies of the 1930’s. Through the lens of Nazi propaganda filmmaker, Leni Riefenstahl, these theatrical political productions were captured for worldwide viewing. Today the site is neither a monument nor a historical ruin, but rather a place where the history of a dark past has been abandoned as part of wishing it all away.

The Memoriam of the Nuremberg Trials is located in the Palace of Justice, and we were able to enter the actual courtroom where in 1945, high ranking Nazi officials were tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity. The exhibition hall was filled with historical information and background on the procedures agreed to by all the allied powers to develop a process to insure justice not vengeance.
