Regensburg Germany

We leave Prague on the high speed train to Munich, which stops in our destination city of Regensburg. The train also stops in Schwandorf where all of the passengers are requested to exit. Apparently there is some issue which now requires a reassignment to one of several trains, depending on the travelers final destination. For us, we board a local train, which while a bit crowded gets us to the Regensburg Hauptbahnhof (main train station).

While the local train was not as comfy as the high speed inter-city, it is perfectly fine especially when I discover a great travel deal from Deutsche Bahn (German Rail). The 9 Euro ticket! For only 9 euro I can travel on any local train, bus or tram anywhere in the country for the entire month of August.

From the train station it’s a quick 5 minute walk to our Airb&b, which is located in the old city neighborhood where my family once lived (More on that later). Up the winding stairs to the 3rd floor. For us Americans that’s really the 4th floor since the Europeans consider the first floor the ground floor.

After freshening up we are off to see my cousin Hatti, who splits her time between Cambridge Massachusetts and here in Regensburg. Fortunately for us, she is here and able to offer us local Regensburg advice and suggestions. Her first suggestion is dinner at the Brauhaus Am Schloss (the Brewery at the Thurn & Taxis Castle). We’re off to a good start.
Fair Warning: This is Germany, there will be beer photos.
