Tale of 2 Fountains

In Constance, the very popular Imperial fountain readily attracts children of all ages. This fountain has some whimsical elements which were additions to the original 1897 fountain, such as the 3 headed peacock and the collection of rabbits at the base.

In the center island of a wide boulevard which separates the old town from a residential district, we stumbled upon the ‘Konstanz Triumphal Arch’, a very unusual contemporary fountain. It is the work of local German artist Peter Lenk, the same artist who created ‘Imperia’, the rotating woman at the entrance to the harbor. There are numerous grotesque and humorous characters bathing, irreverent children, a strange collection of motorists at the top of the arch, and angels in gas masks. I love these sort of odd, quirky, whimsical works. I’ll be looking for more of Peter Lenk’s work as we travel around Lake Constance.

  2. If I didn't know better, I'd have thought my hubby had posed for the bathing statue. 😳
