Weinfelden Weinweg

The Konstanz railway station is a literal stone's throw from the Swiss border, so both countries have ticket counters within the station. Today we purchased tickets and boarded a Swiss train to Weinfelden, a small Swiss town with a number of vineyards and the ‘Weinfelden Weinweg’ or wine path. At the Weinfelden station we purchased our pass which included our map and a rucksack containing a wine glass, crackers, water, and the all important combination to wine safes located along our 9km route. As we quickly leave the town behind, the trail steepens and we enter one of the 13 hillside vineyards along the route.

After a strenuous hour's walk we are rewarded with the discovery of our first wine safe. We enter the code, open the safe and sample several of the local wines.
The wine path winds its way through more vineyards, country lanes, farms, apple orchards, and several small Swiss villages with traditional homes and gardens.
Today's walk was one which we will never forget!
