Today we departed Constance Germany and traveled through Switzerland onboard a Swiss Rail train bound for Milan. We were hoping for breathtaking alpine views through Switzerland, but the rain and low cloud ceiling offered a different experience. We arrived at the grand Milano Centrale railway station, a vast and magnificent structure. Originally built in 1931 to glorify Benito Mussolini's facist regime, the station still commands your attention with the steel and glass arched train sheds to the grand main commercial halls and imposing facade.
We figured out the metro ticket machine, arrived at the Milan Duomo, took the obligatory selfie, and proceeded to walk through the high rent Milan fashion district. We passed a fashion model photo shoot and numerous high priced custom shops, where you are buzzed in, that is if you aren’t dressed like me.
My first impression is that Milan is just a big city lacking charm, but we’re only here one night. For me the magnificent Milano Centrale Railway Station was worth the stop.
