Race Day

We were minding our own business, having our 11 am cappuccino, when we became aware of a great deal of activity nearby. Quick to my feet, I soon discovered that the Biciclette Lucca bicycle race was about to begin. And in a flash several hundred racers went wheezing by and off through the streets of Lucca. I later found out that the riders would travel a 130km (80 mile) course and then return to the finish line on the Lucca wall.
3 ½ hours later I took my spot near the finish line as the support vehicles and motorcycles heralded the approach of the lead bikes, and the winner. Just another surprising day in Lucca!
