Outside of the walled City of Lucca, just ten minutes south of the railway station, we found the trail which follows the Nottolini aqueduct. This neoclassical structure completed in 1836, supplied the city with water from the nearby natural springs. Our 3 km walk under the 413 arches led us to the cistern at the base of mount pisano. From here the aqueduct continues underground to the source and our trail ended.

We begin our walk at the Cistern temple close to Lucca |
Along the route there are several fountains with water taps, and as we entered the village of Guamo residents were lined up to fill their bottles with the natural spring water. We joined the queue and filled our water bottles as well.
We eventually made our way to the Cistern at the base of mount Pisano with the city of Lucca no longer in sight.
