Fethiye

Our next stop is Fethiye, a small city a bit further south along the Turkish coast, and in order to get there we need to take a bus. Here traveling from point A to point B in a country where you do not speak the language can be a challenge. First we have to find the right bus station, and the bus route which sends us in the right direction. We were advised to take the bus to Mugla and then transfer to a Fethiye bound bus. Having located our bus, our baggage tossed in the back, we find a seat and begin our journey.

Now we could have taken a luxury motor coach at $12 each, but we chose to ride with the locals on the regional district buses at $2 each.  These are essentially large passenger vans with a capacity for 20 although that number is often exceeded. Our first bus deposits us at a stop on a roundabout in Mugla, where we simply wait until another bus with a Fethiye placard in the window arrives and carries us to our final destination.

After our 4 ½ hour bus journey we find ourselves in a much smaller version of Brodrum, more relaxed, no glitz. Although we do notice a large number of Turkish flags on display.
