In and around Kathmandu there are two monumental Buddhist Stupas (dome shaped shrines often containing relics), which draw large numbers of visitors. The first is the Boudhanath Stupa (believed to be the worlds largest) and the second is the Swayambhunath Mahachaitya, known locally as the Monkey Temple. Unfortunately most of the tourists we witnessed approached these Stupas more as attractions than as pilgrimage sites. Nonetheless we walked clockwise around each Stupa spinning the prayer wheels hoping to gain merit from the inscribed mantras. At both sites we were able to enter adjacent monasteries allowing us the opportunity to sit with Tibetan Monks chanting sutras, providing a spiritual respite.
After climbing 365 steps we reach the Swayambhunaath Stupa

As of this minute, Ingrid has viewed all of your photos, heard me read all of your blog posts AND viewed all of Tammy's posts. Most video clips also viewed. Her favorite site you have visited is your current location. (Surprised me!) I'd have chosen Greece...so far. She continues to be amazed by technology yet instructs me to "save" what you write from today forward so I can share the rest of your worldly travels when we visit her again. ;-)
