Mangrove Forest and Fishing Village

Exploring the east shore of Koh Chang we find a very different island. The island has a remote natural feel, the way the western shore must have appeared before any development. While continuing south on the eastern side, we do find signs for a long beach and a few resorts, but the area still retains a very rustic look. But the main draw for us is the Salakphet mangrove forest, where there is an elevated concrete and wooden footbridge leading through the park.

A short scooter ride from the bridge walkway, built on the edge of the mangrove forest, are the traditional fishing villages of Salakphet and Salakkok. While both may have a few restaurants or offer self guided kayak rentals, they remain active fishing communities. The stilt houses and colorful fishing boats are delightful, and provide for many great photos.
