The colorful People

In general I enjoy walking through city streets and alleyways just to see what I might see, like the colorful mural painting pictured above. Here in Jodhpur I found many friendly people just as interested in stopping to chat with me as I was interested in chatting with them. Often after an interesting exchange, there are requests for selfies or posed photos, like the young man who interrupted his cricket game for a snap.....

.....or the wedding band saluting in their smart uniforms.

Then apparently I wandered into the fabric district, since shop after shop sold bolts of cloth, thread and notions. Here I found these shirt-makers with a well organized shop, new sewing machines and the look of success.
Before too long I was standing at a sewing machine repair shop. These two brothers are third generation repairmen in this 100 year old business and were thrilled to discover that I repaired sewing machines as well. This led to a work stoppage in order to sip Chai and discuss the finer points of rotary hook machines and the new industrial models from china.

There is nothing quite as pleasing as the sound of a sweet running sewing machine:

  1. Who knew you repaired sewing machines?! I chucked Mother's beloved Singer last month. It was a sad day but she made many a garment & so many quilts. It lived a good life!
