The Linh Phuoc Temple

The Linh Phuoc Temple is a quick walk from the Trai Mat rail station on the Dalat vintage train line, and it is clearly a popular stop as evidenced by the number of tourist buses at the site. But it is popular with good reason. The buildings at this unique temple complex are covered in mosaics. The floor to ceiling colorful shards consist of broken bits of bottles, tiles and crockery. The resulting twisting mosaic columns of dragons and attendant Buddhas create a dazzling fanciful environment.

In the main shrine is the impressive 17m (56 ft) tall statue of the bodhisattva Avalokitesvara. In Buddhism a bodhisattva is an enlightened being who has put off entering nirvana in order to assist all sentient beings in achieving liberation from suffering and attain enlightenment. Avalokitesvara, Chenrezig in the Tibetan tradition, is widely revered as a bodhisattva of infinite compassion and mercy.
