For our last few days in Vietnam, we booked 2 nights onboard a cruise ship exploring Halong bay. This UNESCO world heritage site is known for its vast number of large limestone islands (1969 in total). The absolute best way to experience these unique formations was from the water, on the sea kayaks provided by our cruise line or simply from the deck of our ship while underway or at anchor. I should note that this was a small cruise ship with a total number of 40-50 passengers, which thankfully meant no long buffet lines, Karaoke decks, or ABBA themed dance nights. This cruising experience was only about appreciating the magnificent natural environment. (click on photos to enlarge)
We also had the opportunity to view passing fishing boats hauling in nets, traditional floating villages and small fish farms. While part of our time was spent under overcast skies, the weather in no way deterred from our enjoying the spectacular scenery. This was a glorious way to end our time in Vietnam
