In the old town of Hoi An there is a narrow channel sheltered from the Thu Bon river by a small island accessible via a footbridge. At sunset this protected waterway is a buzz of activity with hundreds of small passenger carrying lantern boats. As darkness descends and the lanterns glow becomes more intense, many people set adrift small candle lit paper luminaries. It is truly a magnificent and joyous sight to behold. Yet another reason Hoi An is a special place.
