We are currently in Hua Hin, a beachfront city on the western edge of the gulf of Thailand. It is a place where waterfront resorts have mostly consumed the old fishing neighborhoods, and tourism is now the primary industry. Here the gulf water is warm, bath water warm, and we can’t resist wading in several times each day.Within an hour's scooter ride south of Hua Hin city, we found several long beaches, each devoid of tourists. These empty stretches of white sand and ocean screamed tropical paradise.
The park also boasts several large caves within the limestone Karsts which dot the coastline, and we decided to explore the Praya Nakon cave. The cave was accessed by longboat to a remote beach head where we followed the trail up and into a remarkable Jurassic park world.
Thankfully, vast areas of land and coast are under the protection of the Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park. Within the park we discovered the great lotus pond, just past full bloom, but still quite beautiful.

So much of Thailand is beautiful and largely untouched, and a joy to discover.
