Thai Brats and Beer

We often search out interesting cheap eats from street vendors at night markets, and are accustomed to seeing various grilled meats on skewers, green papaya salads and pot sticker dumplings. So imagine my surprise when at the Chiang Mai Saturday market I found a young man serving up his homemade Bratwursts!  As it turns out these authentic offerings complete mit senf (mustard), were inspired by his time in Germany. Well the German in me could not resist.

Since brats and beer go hand in hand, my next stop was the beer tent. I am pleased to report, there was no shortage of beer in Thailand (just a shortage of Brats). Popular Thai lagers brands like Chang and Singha are widely available. While I am partial to Chang (Elephant) beer, I have to tip my hat to the Singha brewing company after a starling discovery I made at the Singha park (near Chiang Rai). At an interesting Airstream/Airplane snackbar trailer I discovered a mechanical dispenser designed to pour a perfect beer with just the right foamy head.
