Thailand: Random Snaps

TukTuk Mural in Ching Mai

I am enamored by the Thai greeting known as the Wai. The act of pressing the palms together in a prayer-like manner, speaks to the respectful nature of Thai culture, even when offered by the ferry company statue or Ronald McDonald.

At the Wat Phra Singh Buddhist Temple in Chiang Mai, we discovered these unbelievably realistic figures modeled in fiberglass. At first glance, they appear real and many people are indeed taken in. The detailed age spots, wrinkles, calluses, and individual hair strands are simply incredible. It is no wonder so many people assume that these are perfectly still meditating monks.

In Hua Hin we experienced a modern version of the traditional Budddhist exchange of offerings for blessings in the form of this Monkmobile. When we heard the loud music and saw people gathering, our first thought was that a parade was approaching. No parade, just another surprising moment in Thailand.

Tammy receives blessing from the traveling Monk video clip:

Street Cart in Bangkok selling Durian, a foul smelling Asian fruit which is banned from hotel rooms and all forms of public transportation. But somehow it remains popular enough for there to be a full Durian Buffet?

This McDonald's restaurant was located next to a Cannabis shop…….
