For the past fortnight (2 weeks) we stayed in Quedgeley, a suburb of Gloucester. On our first trip into Gloucester we arrived at the docks, a once active wharf, where ships would unload cargo to warehouses. And in the days before trains or trucks, goods would be transferred to awaiting barges for distribution inland along the vast canal system. Today the warehouses are trendy apartments with adjacent shopping malls, eateries, and breweries with moorings for pleasure boaters in Narrowboats barges. We were especially pleased to find these 2 Narrowboats lying at the basin, The Mister B and The Tamiley:
Back in Quedgeley, we were pleased that our modern flat had a well appointed kitchen, and was even happier to find countless Supermarkets with so many familiar items. A slew of rainy days allowed us for the first time in over a year, to enjoy a few home cooked meals including two grand Sunday roasts, and after a wait of over a year, a batch of Tammy’s famous Potato Salad:
Note: The historic painting of the Gloucester quay is from the collection of the National Waterways Museum located within the Llanthony Warehouse on the dockside.
