All Aboard for The Magical Mystery Tour
Step right this way………..
From our base in northern Wales we took a day trip to Liverpool, which was really about one thing: The Beatles! Of the numerous city tours which feature drives past the Beatles’ childhood homes and key locations from songs, like Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields, we opted for a ride on the Magical Mystery Tour bus. Ok, the whole Liverpool Beatles industry can be a bit over the top, but we decided to embrace the hokey and have fun, sing along, follow the narration and enjoy our ticket to ride.
Childhood homes of George and Paul
The attractions along the Cavern Club district are touristy and the original Club, where the Beatles got their start, is partly a recreation, although still at the same number 10 Mathew street address. The club was worth the stop, just to soak up the atmosphere and check out the memorabilia.
I first saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show in 1964 along with an estimated 73 million viewers. That was the start of Beatlemania in America, and for much of my generation, the moment we became lifelong fans. So visiting the Liverpool sights was just plain fun and while the city has numerous statues of notable monarchs like Queen Victoria, and Edward VII, the crowds are always gathered around the fab four waiting for the opportunity to pose with John, Paul, George and Ringo.
