The Blue City

 Jodhpur is known as the blue city with many azure colored houses dotting the cityscape. It is believed that the Brahman caste (the priestly caste) first painted their houses blue, the color associated with the Hindu lord Shiva, as a mark of social status. Today the blue buildings are synonymous with the city's identity, along with the Mehrangahr Fort which dominates the skyline.
